Yorkton Stories is a project initiated, written and produced by Dick DeRyk, a longtime resident of Yorkton with a keen interest in local history and interesting stories about mostly ordinary people doing interesting things.

He was one of the founders, co-owner and editor of Yorkton This Week, a weekly newspaper founded by three partners in 1975, and one still in production. After leaving the newspaper world in 1987 he continued to write on a freelance basis, provided marketing services to clients, operated several businesses in Yorkton including a coffee and donut franchise in Yorkton and two other communities, a women's clothing store, a bistro-style restaurant, commercial property and more. He also served on Yorkton city council for 13 years after leaving the publishing industry.

He continues to be involved in the community, continues to provide communications services to a major local human services agency, and publishes this podcast, started in 2023. It grew out of a belief that with the city not having an archivist/historian position, it would be worthwhile to start compiling an oral history of Yorkton, concentrating on people and activities throughout the city's history.
